slicing meat:
To slice meats thin, freeze meat first. Remove from freezer and thaw only slightly. This also works well for slicing bacon into bits.
cubing bread:
Ever wonder how bread can actually be in cubes instead of squishies? Freeze the bread first. Thaw slightly. Use a sharp knife, and it will cube wonderfully.
keeping cauliflower white:
Add just a little bit of milk to water during boiling to keep cauliflower from burning brown.
bone in roast:
For a faster cooking roast, choose a roast with a bone in it. The bone heats up and carries the heat to the inside of the roast.
choosing a ripe cantaloupe:
Smell and touch. If you can smell the cantaloupe as you pass by, it is ripe. Pick up the cantaloupe and press the end where it once was attached to the vine and smell. If it is slightly tender, and you can smell the aroma of cantaloupe, it is ripe. Watch out for tender spots around the cantaloupe. Tender spots indicate an overripe cantaloupe.
